Nevşehir Airport to Ürgüp: Taxi, Transfer & Shuttle Guide (2026)

Cappadocia fairy chimneys at sunset near Ürgüp — Nevşehir Airport transfer guide 2026

Ürgüp is one of Cappadocia's most characterful bases — a hillside town of stone mansions, cave hotels, and some of the region's best restaurants, sitting at the heart of the Göreme–Avanos–Ürgüp triangle. Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV) is the closest airport, approximately 48 km away. There is no public bus from the terminal to Ürgüp, but two options cover the route well: a pre-booked shared transfer direct to your hotel, or a metered taxi.

Fares current as of May 2026. Confirm prices with operators before travel.

Option 1: Pre-Booked Shared Transfer (Best Value for Solo Travellers)

İpektur is the main shuttle operator at NAV and offers per-person shared transfers from the airport directly to Ürgüp hotels. You must book in advance — there are no walk-up shared services waiting at arrivals.

  • Fare: ~550 TRY per person
  • Journey time: ~55 minutes
  • Booking: Contact İpektur at +90 531 735 10 78 or +90 384 212 64 67 before you fly

The driver meets you in arrivals with a name board. Once all passengers for your vehicle have collected bags, the transfer departs directly to each hotel in sequence. For a solo traveller or couple, this is by far the most cost-effective way to reach Ürgüp.

International booking platforms such as Viator and GetYourGuide also list NAV–Ürgüp transfers if you prefer to pay by card in advance.

Option 2: Taxi

Metered taxis wait 24/7 at the rank directly outside arrivals. The fare runs on the Nevşehir municipal meter tariff.

  • Estimated fare: ~1,830 TRY
  • Distance: ~48 km
  • Journey time: ~50–60 minutes

Flag drop ~50 TRY, approximately 37 TRY/km.

A taxi is three times the per-person cost of a shared transfer for a solo traveller, but makes sense for groups of three or four splitting the fare — each person pays roughly 460–610 TRY for a door-to-door, no-waiting ride. It is also the only reliable option for late-night arrivals when shared services may not be operating.

Option 3: İpektur City Shuttle + Onward Transport

İpektur also runs a lower-cost shuttle to Nevşehir city centre (~150 TRY, ~30 min). From Nevşehir, you can take a dolmuş toward Ürgüp — but connections are infrequent, and the combined journey with luggage is cumbersome. This route is rarely worth the effort compared to a direct shared transfer, unless you are on an extremely tight budget and travelling light.

Why Ürgüp?

Ürgüp makes an excellent Cappadocia base for a few reasons. It is more town-like than Göreme — with a proper high street, local market, and wine-producing villages (Mustafapaşa, Ortahisar) within easy reach. Cave hotels carved into the tufa cliffs line the hillside above town, and the Esbelli district is famous for its boutique properties. For travellers who want atmosphere without Göreme's concentrated tourist bustle, Ürgüp is often the better choice.

The airport is 48 km away — slightly further than from Göreme (38 km), but the road is straightforward and the transfer time difference is only around 10–15 minutes.

Practical Tips

Book your transfer before you fly. İpektur needs to know your flight number and arrival time to have a driver ready. Walk-up shared transfers do not exist at NAV.

Balloon flights start early. Most Cappadocia hot-air balloon flights depart before sunrise. If this is on your itinerary, factor in that your hotel needs to be within reach of the launch site by 5:00–6:00 am — all major Ürgüp hotels coordinate balloon pickup.

Winter conditions. NAV sits at 940 m elevation. Snow and fog can affect flights between November and March. Build flexibility into your itinerary.

Wine country. The Cappadocia wine region centres on Ürgüp and the surrounding villages. Kavaklidere and Kocabağ wineries both offer tastings within a short taxi ride.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Ürgüp from Nevşehir Airport? Approximately 48 km by road. The journey takes 50–60 minutes by taxi or private transfer.

Is there a direct shuttle from NAV airport to Ürgüp? No scheduled public bus runs directly from NAV to Ürgüp. The practical option for individuals is a pre-booked shared transfer with İpektur (~550 TRY per person). Groups can take a metered taxi and split the fare (~1,830 TRY total).

How much is a taxi from Nevşehir Airport to Ürgüp? Approximately 1,830 TRY on the municipal meter (May 2026 estimate). For a group of four this works out to around 460 TRY per person — comparable to a shared transfer with direct door-to-door service.

Can I book a transfer from NAV to Ürgüp in advance? Yes — and you should. Contact İpektur on +90 531 735 10 78 with your flight number and arrival time. International platforms (Viator, GetYourGuide) also list this route for card payment in advance.

Is Nevşehir Airport (NAV) or Kayseri Airport (ASR) closer to Ürgüp? NAV is considerably closer — 48 km versus roughly 65 km from Kayseri (ASR). If your flight options are similar, NAV saves you 30–40 minutes of ground transfer time. See our NAV vs ASR comparison guide for a full breakdown.

What is Ürgüp like compared to Göreme? Ürgüp is larger and more town-like, with local shops, restaurants, and a weekly market. Göreme is smaller and more oriented to backpackers and tour groups. Ürgüp's cave hotels and wine-village surroundings make it popular with couples and independent travellers seeking a quieter, more local feel.
